Ps: I also included a map in this blog post with all the castles mentioned!
Liechtenstein Castle:
Liechtenstein is a very small country that borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
But this is a blog post about Germany. Why are you talking about a castle in another country?
Hear me out!
Liechtenstein Castle is actually located in Germany.
Yup.
We went on a weekend trip last June and I fell in love with this castle. Driving to it is pretty easy which makes it even more worth visiting!
My in-detail blog post is going to be published soon! Subscribe to my newsletter so you’re one of the first to know!
Heidelberg Palace:
Heidelberg has been on my list of places to visit in Germany for a while now and I had to add this stunning castles in this blog post. Nowadays, you can only see the ruins of what once was a grand palace. And, these ruins are some of the most important Renaissance ruins in Northern Europe.

Neuschwanstein Castle:
Do you want to live out a real live Disney fairytale? Neuschwanstein Castle makes that dream possible!
And you don’t have to go to a Disney set for it.
Nope.
You just got to go to Bavaria in Germany.
I was lucky enough to be able to visit the castle before the coronavirus quarantine happened and it was a dream come true.
Hohenzollern Castle:
Hohenzollern Castle is the ancestrial seat of the Hohenzollern family, Germany’s Royal family.
This majestic castle sits on top of a hill in Baden-Wurttemberg and it will for sure give you the fantasy feels you need.
Hohenzollern was built way back in 1423 and it is known as one of the most fortified castles in Germany. I guess the Germany Royal family weren’t messing around with intruders huh?
For more information, check out the castle’s official website.
Cochem Castle:
Cochem Castle was another castle on my bucket list. One fine day, we decided to jump in our car and go see it!
This pretty castle is perched on top of a hill and you get the most stunning views of Cochem village and the Moselle Valley.
Furthermore, the castle is rich in history. Over the years, a number of different families, states and even clergymen owned the castle. Nowadays, only a housekeeper and a cat lives there.

Burg Frankenstein:
It was only a couple of years ago when I found out that Frankenstein castle was a real thing. A real-life castle in Germany.
Frankenstein Castle is a medieval castle located in Darmstadt. It is a medieval castle made famous by the Frankstein story.
Did you know that the word Frankenstein means “Stone of the Franks?” The Franks were once an ancient Germanic tribe.
PRO TIP: This castle is located very close to Frankfurt! Frankfurt is one of Germany’s main cities and makes the perfect location for you to a) fly into b) drive to and c) stay in. Check out the below TOP hotels to stay in Frankfurt!
Sanssouci Palace:
From Frankfurt to Berlin … 🎶
Well, that’s not exactly how the song goes but I thought it was a funny anecdote to add.
ANYWAYS!
Postdam Palace should be on your Germany castle bucket list.
Why?
Because it is one of Germany’s most opulent castle. Needless to say, it is also huge.
Burg Eltz:
Burg Eltz is another fairytale gem in Germany.
It was one of the very first places I visited when I moved to Germany two years ago! Wow, time flies.
Eltz is a popular tourist spot so I recommend planning ahead when visiting. You can spend the day wandering around the castle and learning more about its history, eating delicious German food with picturesque views and hiking through the surrounding castle grounds.
Check out my guide on how you can have an amazing time at Burg Eltz Castle!
